Sevdaliza

Sevdaliza

NLD (Rotterdam)

Biography

Born in Tehran, Sevdaliza fled her native country in the 90s and took refuge with her family in Rotterdam, where she embarked on a professional basketball career a few years later, before drastically changing course and launching into music. Starting with trip-hop and inspired by Björk or FKA Twigs, the Iranian-Dutch singer has digested the various influences on her to create a relish that is all her own. Her deep, languid voice sweeps over various kinds of instrumentals, progressing from Cyberpunk to Trap and sometimes even using Auto-Tune. In her album "Shabrang" (2020), Sevdaliza doesn’t hesitate to take a stand by evoking US foreign policy towards her country of origin.
