The Go Find
The Go Find, Morr Music’s latest signing, is Dieter Sermeus from Antwerpen, Belgium. He was born on nov 11th 1974 and started playing in a guitarband when he was fifteen years old. Being a proper indie boy already, he was a big fan of the SST label at that time. Dieter also had the privilege and pleasure to play with Pavement in a local club when he was just 17 years old. That band influenced him a lot in the early days. „Slanted And Enchanted“, for example, is still one of Sermeus’ favourite records. With his band Orange Black he supported two shows with Pavement followed by shows with Stereolab, Seam, Unwound and more indie heroes of the 90s. Dieter counts all of them as important influences up to this day. In the meantime, Dieter also started to play in a band called Napkin Vs Soda. They released some cassettes to a lively homerecording/lofi scene and appeared on several LP compilations. With Orange Black he released three records („It's Electric“, „Bright Lights“, „Morning Notes“) and a 7inch („freak generation b/w nutricious“). Three years ago Sermeus started experimenting with electronics. Arne van Petgem, probably better known as Morr Music artist Styrofoam and a close friend of Dieter, already helped him out from the beginning and taught him the basics of computer based production. Some of the songs that will appear on The Go Find’s debut on Morr Music (release due in early fall 2004) have their roots in that period. It then took Sermeus quite a while to combine good songwriting with sophisticated electronics. The Go Find’s main interest is to write good pop songs, but at the same time Dieter is always looking for the perfect balance between electronics and acoustic instruments - two elements he considers very important for quality pop music. Following Styrofoam’s initial support, Dieter helped Arne to expand his solo project to the Styrofoam band and now is a steady member of this formation. In return, Styrofoam helped to mix and produce the yet to be titled debut album by the Go Find.
