Virtually run through the history of 5 Belgian top festivals in benefit of support fund LIVE2020!

Music lovers start the summer with a festival. Unfortunately, this year that’s not the case. Again. Support fund LIVE2020 has thought of a super cool solution, with the help of Golazo. Together, they want to start the summer in a sporty way with the ‘Belgian Festivals Run’. A virtual run, where music lovers can run through the history of 5 top festivals, from June 17th to June 20th. Download the app, choose your distance and run with us! In your headphones, you can hear cool stories and anecdotes about Couleur Café, Rock Werchter, Dour Festival, Tomorrowland and Pukkelpop, thanks to Studio Brussel. The run is available from now on via www.belgianfestivalsrun.be. Participation costs you 15 euro, of which the proceeds go entirely to LIVE2020, the support fund for and by the Belgian live music sector.

From an unheard-of interview with Netsky to that time Nirvana played as opening act: participants of the Belgian Festivals Run literally run through the history of the 5 festivals. For the occasion, Studio Brussel went digging in their archives and selected a number of remarkable moments. Stijn Van de Voorde is present as an enthusiastic sports coach and talks the fragments together. Furthermore, each festival curates its own sporty playlist for the runners. The icing on the cake. The runners are running for a good cause: LIVE2020, the support fund for and by the live music sector.

Participants register, download the MyTrace app, follow the further steps and select the Belgian Festivals Run. The MyTrace app is a tool of sports and health company Golazo, which together with LIVE2020 is initiator of the Belgian Festivals Run. Participants choose their own course. Running is possible during several waves in the weekend of 17 to 20 June. During the run, participants will be immersed in the atmosphere and experience of the festivals, through fun anecdotes, stories and environmental sounds. After each kilometre, they will also receive an update on their time. If you want, you can also have a little competition with friends. Not a runner? You can also walk the Belgian Festivals Run.

Even with minimum perspective, financial support remains necessary

The timing of the Belgian Festivals Run is no coincidence: the end of June is traditionally the start of a fantastic Belgian festival summer. Unfortunately, the summer of 2021 does not yet bring a return to normality.

Couleur Café and Dour Festival have seen their editions postponed another year. Rock Werchter has also been postponed to 2022. However, the festival will be organising a coronaproof concert series in the Festival Park this summer: WERCHTER PARKLIFE. Tomorrowland will host a virtual edition in July and, together with Pukkelpop, hopes to hold a full capacity event at the end of August/beginning of September. Both festivals are aiming for a normal edition, although there are still a lot of question marks surrounding the criteria and circumstances in which this can be organised.

The relaunch goes step by step and still involves uncertainties behind the scenes. “There are people in our sector who could not do their job for a year and a half, who are going through very difficult times financially. The damage suffered will be felt for years to come,” notes Coralie Berael of LIVE2020. “The solidarity fund remains necessary, the crisis situation in the live music sector is not over yet.”

About LIVE2020

LIVE2020 is an initiative for and by the Belgian live music sector. The solidarity fund is managed by the King Baudouin Foundation. LIVE2020 helps everyone who makes live music possible. From backliner to stage hand, from musician to booking agent, from DJ to stage builder, from sound engineer to roadie. Anyone who is now struggling financially deserves the support of the fund. The once flourishing live music sector is bleeding. LIVE2020 offers no alternative to the current and future support measures of the governments. These are and remain necessary. Supporting the fund can be done by making a donation. For every donation of at least 1 euro made through the Payconiq by Bancontact app, Bancontact Payconiq Company adds 1 euro. You can also support a solidarity action or set one up yourself. More info via live2020.be. Together we are #UnitedForLiveMusic.
