The Maccabees

GBR (Brighton)

Biography

The Maccabees formed in the fertile music scene of Brighton, and take a lot of the ultra up-to-date and yet consciously retro style that is abundant in the town. Taking, for example, the franticness and urgency of Bloc Party and Foals and mixing it with the off the wall shrieks and indie pop skuzzes of Talking Heads or XTC, their singles 'Love You Better' or 'No Kind Words' always seem on the verge of exploding out of control. This is true of their live shows too, where they keep audiences on the point of ecstasy with a super-charged atmosphere. The huge success of their sophomore album, Wall Of Arms, means that they have become one of the most exciting and popular young groups around, and it is a great pleasure to welcome them to Dour for the first time.
